On Tuesday, October 29, DCMO BOCES Mental Health Coordinator Amanda Hoover facilitated the Mindfulness In Education workshop at the Support Services Center in Norwich, with participants from Baingbridge-Guilford CSD, Afton CSD, Delaware Academy CSD at Delhi and DCMO BOCES. Trauma-informed schools are well-versed in co-regulating with students throughout the day to ensure nervousness and anxiety are not at high levels for our students. Building an emotionally safe classroom community with classroom circles creates affect and belonging. Affect creates the feeling of trust and care amongst each other setting our students up for greater access to learning and mastery of social skills. This greatly supports students' mental health and a positive climate as the adult models compassion and self-regulation through mindfulness and healthy conflict resolution.
In the picture below you will see a classroom circle centerpiece that Jodi Wombacker, Bainbridge-Guilford CSD elementary teacher, created the evening after the training as she implemented what she learned with her students the next day. Thank you for all you do for your students, Mrs. Wombacker!
