Our graduating CTE students take the skilled trades they’ve learned and apply them in the local workforce after graduation, helping meet the demand of the local economy. This week, students at the DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus in Sidney Center were recognized for this important milestone with a signing ceremony. Employers, family, teachers and administrators from both DCMO BOCES and students’ home schools gathered and watched as 13 students signed certificates commemorating their agreement to begin their careers with a local employer or trade union. Attendees were welcomed by Jennifer Lawrence, Director of CTE at DCMO BOCES.

Students recognized on Tuesday were: Hailey Brandenburg, Delaware Academy CSD at Delhi and employer Andes Highway Department; Jeffrey Barnes, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton CSD and employer Butterfield Ridge Stone; Journey Leonard, Otsego Christian Academy and employer DCMO BOCES; Nicholas Bialecki, Hancock CSD, Trey Champlin, Tyler Engel, Paige Smith, and Kaelum Dailey, Bainbridge-Guilford CSD, Faith Short, Ayden O’Connor and Edward Henriksen-DuVall, Sidney CSD, and Aiden Smith, Afton CSD, and employer Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters; and Caleb Wildenstein, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton CSD, and employer Wildenstein Logging.

Harrold Campus held a fun Field Days event last Friday, and the weather cooperated, providing a great day for all involved. Students from preschool to seniors enjoyed food, fun and festivities, including basketball, obstacle courses, egg & spoon races, bubble machines, making colored bubble art, marble painting, water games, parachute, face painting, cornhole, sidewalk chalk, and more. Thank you to the Community & Culture Committee and all the volunteers for organizing and staffing this fun day!

The annual Senior Showcase and Open House at DCMO BOCES Robert W. Harrold Campus took place last Thursday. Senior Career & Technical Education students presented their final projects and talked with friends and visitors about their future plans. Throughout the building, families were able to speak with teachers and see their students’ work. There was a lot of pride in all that was on display, and it was great to be able to show it off– thank you to all who came out to support our students!

Two DCMO BOCES Career & Technical Education students from the Pole Campus were recognized with scholarships on Friday, receiving the Marlene Klock Memorial Award, also known as the T&K Harrington, LLC Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes Chenango County high school seniors who plan to enter the workforce directly after graduation, with special consideration given to students entering the field of underground utilities. The 2026 scholarship was further supported by an additional contribution from Bruce Elmore in honor of his parents, Mary and Walt Elmore.

Calvin Wheelock, a senior from Greene Central School District, and Blake Barrows, a senior from Oxford Academy Central School District, are this year’s recipients. Wheelock plans to enter the workforce after graduation, joining Cook’s Sanitation. He also recently earned his CDL-A Restricted License, marking an important step toward his career goals. Barrows plans to begin working for L.W. Morse and Sons Plumbing and Heating following graduation.

Congratulations to both of our scholarship recipients on this well-deserved recognition, and best wishes for continued success as they begin the next chapter of their careers!

Students from the DCMO BOCES Conservation programs at the Alan D. Pole Campus and Robert W. Harrold Campus competed in the annual NYS Conservation Competitions held May 21 at SUNY Morrisville. Twelve schools from across New York State participated in the event, which featured a wide range of forestry, heavy equipment, and woodsman skill competitions.

On May 20, a select group of seniors in the Welding Technology program at the Pole Campus took a field trip to the Local 60 Union Hall Training Center in Syracuse, NY to learn more about what it takes to be an Ironworker. During the hands-on visit, they learned about apprentice skills like rebar tying and setting measuring instruments, and tried new welding techniques. Guiding the tour and giving instruction was Corey Mossow, Training Coordinator and Business Agent for the Ironworkers Local 60.

Students attending were: Mathew Allen and Cody Mantell, Norwich CSD; Dravin Dibble, Sidney CSD; Christopher Hine, Greene CSD; James McCrady, Otselic Valley CSD; Michelle Schader, Valley Heights Christian Academy and Aaron Dwayne Swank, Sherburne-Earlville CSD. Three students– Dravin, Aaron, and Christopher– plan to join the Ironworkers apprentice program upon graduation.

Two students in the Automotive Technology program at the DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus recently received scholarships from the Norwich Car Club. Jacob Depew of Otselic Valley CSD received a $1,000 scholarship for students entering the workforce after graduation, to help purchase tools and supplies. Jacob is currently employed at Reputable Auto. Jackson Barker of Sherburne-Earlville CSD received a $1,000 scholarship for students continuing their education after high school. He has been accepted into the Automotive Technology program at SUNY Morrisville. The scholarships reflect the continued partnership between the Norwich Car Club and the Automotive Technology program. Congratulations to Jacob and Jackson on this recognition and best wishes in your future automotive careers!

DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus students from Miss Greene's class and Ms. LaTourette’s class recently visited Hessian Hill Canine Country and Care to explore career opportunities in the canine industry. They learned about grooming, training, boarding, daycare, and animal care management. Through opportunities like this, students are gaining valuable real-world employability skills, confidence, and hands-on experiences that help connect school to future careers and independence.

Six students from the DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus FFA chapter traveled to Buffalo with their advisor to compete in NYS FFA Leadership and Career Development Events and serve as delegates from May 14 through 16.

Students in the Automotive Technology program at the DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus recently assisted the Norwich Car Club (NCC) with preparations for their annual Memorial Day Weekend car show at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich. For several years, under the guidance of Automotive Technology instructor Mr. Foster, Auto Tech students have helped prepare the fairgrounds by setting up spaces for cars and vendors, moving tables and benches, and lending a hand wherever needed. Thank you to our Automotive Technology students for their hard work, Mr. Foster for continuing this partnership opportunity, and the Norwich Car Club for helping connect students with community organizations and shared interests.

The annual Scholar Recognition Program dinner was held at SUNY Oneonta’s Hunt Ballroom Monday night. Area student scholars and their teacher mentors from all the DCMO BOCES and ONC BOCES campuses and component schools gathered with their families, school administrators and community sponsors to receive recognition for the outstanding scholastic achievement of the students and the significant and beneficial influence of the mentors. Speakers included Program Coordinator Martha Ryan from DCMO BOCES, Ginger Rinaldo, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services and Planning Board Member, SUNY Oneonta President Dr. Alberto Cardelle, Anna Banks, SFCU Vice President of Member Experience and Planning Committee Member, Christopher Slonaker from main sponsor NBT Insurance Agency, and keynote speaker, Vice President of Operations for The Raymond Corporation. Students and mentors received certificates from their school administrators, with Jamie Reynolds, Planning Committee Member and Regional Executive and Senior VP of NBT Bank, serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Music was provided by The Little Delaware Music Ensemble, under the direction of Uli Speth.

DCMO BOCES hosted a day-long professional learning opportunity for educators on Monday, focused on ways to align the teaching of a challenging topic with a core standard of the New York State Portrait of a Graduate. “Growing Global Citizens: Holocaust Education and the Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework” featured several guest speakers and a presentation panel of local educators, and was held at the SUNY Oneonta Camp facility. The event attracted teachers of a number of different subjects and grade levels from across the state.

Dr. Doyle Stevick, an internationally recognized scholar, was the keynote speaker. Matthew Rozell, a retired Hudson Falls social studies teacher who became an award-winning author, and Micha Tomkiewicz, a Holocaust survivor and retired Brooklyn College/CUNY Physics and Chemistry professor, also spoke with the group. A “Microburst Presentation Panel” featured area educators Ellen Pringle, Jenny Osowowski, Susan Fertig and Dr. Nicole Waid.
