On Thursday, staff at the DCMO BOCES Support Services Center in Norwich had the opportunity to visit the maple production operation at Robert W. Harrold Campus in Sidney Center. They enjoyed a lunch prepared by students from the Culinary Arts program, visited their Bake Shop, and then students in the Conservation Program showed them the maple production operation, including a walk in the sugarbush to see the sap lines, a peek in the sap tank, an explanation of the reverse osmosis process, and a closeup look at the wood-fired evaporator, ending in the finishing room. This year, the students have 800 taps on 600 trees, and so far have produced a little over 60 gallons of syrup. For comparison, in 2013, they produced a total of 34 gallons with 300 taps. Thank you to Mr. Whittaker, Mr. Larsen , Mrs. Larsen and the students of the Conservation program for the informative tour, and to Chef Romanowski, Mrs. Ruff and the Culinary Arts students for the delicious lunch!

Wednesday, Ms. Librizzi’s class at the Harrold Campus was learning about Eleanor Roosevelt, part of their studies marking Women’s History Month. Later, they learned about maple production when they visited the sugarbush and saphouse. Students from the Conservation Program and FFA chapter explained how maple syrup and other products are made. Thank you, Mr. Whittaker, for a sweet visit!

Our Certified Nurse Assisting students at the Alan D. Pole Campus of DCMO BOCES got creative with bottles, balloons, straws, and tape to build working lung models with the guidance of science teacher Mrs. Engle-Thomas.
By pulling down on the "diaphragm," they watched the lungs inflate— just like how we breathe! This fun, hands-on activity helped bring their respiratory lessons to life.

Students at DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus have been celebrating Dr. Seuss all week! There’s been lots of reading of Dr. Seuss stories– sometimes with “special guest” readers– a Dr. Seuss movie on Monday, coloring, and special dress days – all in all, it’s been a fun, fun time!

We made it! 100 days of learning, growing, and having fun together. From ABCs to 123s, we’ve learned so much! We celebrated by counting, crafting, and (of course) having a blast. Here’s to 100 more days of adventure, laughter, and memories!

The DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus hosted area 10th graders and their families on Tuesday for Career Night. Many of the students had already visited the Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs earlier in the year on school trips. At Career Night, families were able to meet instructors, dive deeper into the program requirements and outcomes, and ask questions. Some programs also featured alumni who were able to share their experiences and advice. DCMO BOCES offers a range of career-focused programs at both their campuses; you can find out more at www.dcmoboces.com/o/dcmo-boces/page/career-technical-education

Culinary Arts students Jessica Addorosio (Bainbridge-Guilford CSD) and Pierce Haney (Unatego CSD) try out the new Sno-Cone machine in the DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus Culinary Arts classroom. Instructor Jeanni Romanowski said that the students became “interested in purchasing their own concessions following their Fall-fest collaboration with SUNY Delhi,” and look forward to using it in future activities and events.

Learning can be so much fun when you’re with the right crew! Every moment is an opportunity to grow.

Area 10th grade students and their families are invited to visit the DCMO BOCES campuses for Career Night. This event allows students and their families to tour the Career & Technical Education programs, meet potential instructors and speak with industry professionals about careers in their fields. The Career Night event will be held this week from 5:30 – 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Alan D. Pole Campus in Norwich, and Thursday at the Robert W. Harrold Campus in Sidney Center.

Michael, a student in Mrs. Acunto's elementary classroom, won the elementary school-wide math estimation award for the month of February. Students were given one chance to estimate how many marshmallows were in the jar. Michael had the closest estimate without going over. His estimate was 180 marshmallows– there were 181 in the jar! He received his award at the Rockin' Raiders assembly at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton. Great job Michael!

DCMO BOCES hosted 10 teams from 6 area schools at the Robert W. Harrold Campus for the regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament on Saturday, February 15. In this unique competition, student teams work together to create solutions to open-ended problems, and then present them in imaginative and creative ways. This year, teams from Greenlawn Elementary School in Bainbridge, Holy Family School in Norwich, Greene Central School, Oxford Academy Middle School, and Sherburne Earlville Elementary, Middle and High Schools participated, tackling 3 different problems. Each of the teams finished strong enough to advance to the New York Odyssey of the Mind State Finals on April 5, 2025 at the NY State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Congratulations to all the amazing teams!
