Sometimes you need heavy equipment for the job, even when it's cold, and that means you need to know how to get it started when the temperature drops down. Here two students in the Conservation program at the Alan D. Pole Campus in Norwich work on getting this bulldozer started Thursday, when the temperature was around 17 degrees fahrenheit (they did!). #dcmocollaboration #dcmocte

Forty-three students from Franklin Central School, Afton Central School, and DCMO BOCES recently participated in an Advanced Manufacturing Career Exploration Day at SUNY Broome in Binghamton. A team of 11 faculty and support staff prepared demonstrations, orientations, and lectures for the students, showcasing their state-of-the-art Calice Advanced Manufacturing Center and their Applied Technology Building. Students were introduced to the capabilities of the college’s virtual reality lab, robotics program, electronics lab, regional makerspace, and new CNC technology center. Local manufacturing consultant Steve Palmatier joined the group, offering valuable perspectives on these advanced tools and resources and their relevance to job demands in the area. "This program's ambitious goal is to introduce our students not only to the career and job opportunities in the manufacturing industry but also to connect them to our SUNY system’s educational programs to further prepare them for rewarding careers in technology fields," said Martha Ryan, Enrichment Coordinator for DCMO BOCES Instructional Support Services. “The remarkable support from the SUNY Broome team was key to the successful delivery of this enrichment education experience.” Employers or organizations interested in hosting similar learning activities can learn more at www.dcmoboces.com/o/dcmo-boces/page/enrichment-education.

Students in the DCMO BOCES Welding class at Harrold Campus recently put their skills to work for a local volunteer fire department. The front bumper of this Unadilla Fire Department truck had gotten cracked, but repairing it required some specialized welding. “We are equipped to do MIG aluminum welding here,” according to Matthew Hoffmeister, Welding instructor, “so they brought it here for repair.” A good experience for our students, and a good outcome for the volunteer fire department! #dcmopartnerships
