Nearly 800 instructional staff from 8 component districts plus DCMO BOCES attended a regional learning day, Pathways to Progress on Friday, October 11. Hosted by Greene CSD and Sidney CSD and facilitated by the DCMO BOCES Instructional Support Services Team, the regional day featured a keynote by EdTomorrow and breakout sessions with various topics of interest. Teachers and paraprofessionals had the opportunity to learn about the impact of poverty through a Poverty Simulator, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Using Artificial Intelligence for Project Based Learning, Media Literacy, Teacher Wellness, Farm to School, and several others.
October 14-18 is School Board Recognition Week! Students at DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole and Robert W. Harrold campuses presented thank you cards to members at the last Board of Education meeting. All school boards work to ensure student success, developing a shared vision and goals for the district and ensuring strategies, resources, policies and programs align with district goals. The elected members of the DCMO BOCES school board develop policies and provide fiscal oversight for the district; the District Superintendent, Michael J. Rullo, leads the implementation of the policies and strategic plan. Current board members and the component district they represent are Vanessa Warren, Afton CSD (President), David Cruikshank, Otselic Valley CSD (Vice President), John Klockowski, Norwich CSD, Yvonne LaViola, Greene CSD, Cindy O’Hara, Unatego CSD, Jeanne Shields, Bainbridge-Guilford CSD, and Melissa Stagnaro, Oxford Academy CSD. DCMO BOCES New Vision Education students are hard at work learning about the purpose of curriculum and the various philosophies in education. Students explored three major categories of curriculum and presented them to their fellow classmates in a jig-saw style activity. They also made and presented "Meet the Teacher" newsletters. Students learned about the importance of creating a home-school connection, and their "Meet the Teacher" newsletters were the first stepping stone to bridging the gap.
Here’s a great opportunity from DCMO BOCES Adult & Continuing Education: glass blowing! In this class, led by The Studio for Arts and Crafts, you’ll make your own glass blown ornament. You must be 18 to participate, and the cost is $75 per person (for 2 glass blown ornaments) or $87 per person for 2 ornaments plus stand and gift box. It’s the first day of school, and students arriving this morning at the Alan D. Pole Campus in Norwich were greeted by staff, including District Superintendent Michael Rullo. We’re excited to welcome the students back, and look forward to a great year!
DCMO BOCES kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with an all-staff gathering on Tuesday at the Alan D. Pole Campus in Norwich. The traditional gathering of teachers, administrators and staff from all DCMO BOCES locations brings everyone together for collegial conversations, training, and lunch together. District Superintendent Michael Rullo welcomed the staff back, expressing appreciation for their contributions and excitement for the coming year. Vanessa Warren, President of the DCMO BOCES Board of Education, told the group that the board was aware how dedicated everyone was to the success of the students, and that their hard work was appreciated. Superintendent Rullo also introduce a new strategic plan for 2024-25: Blueprint for Excellence. It was an exciting start to the school year!
Facilitator Penny Ezell returned to the DCMO BOCES Support Services Center to continue with LETRS Vol. 1 training. LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) is an integrated literacy program, and educators from Delaware Academy CSD at Delhi, Greene CSD, Oxford Academy CSD and Unadilla Valley CSD are participating in this professional learning course series. DCMO BOCES provided training for DASA (Dignity for All Students Act) Coordinators from area schools Monday at the Support Services Center in Norwich. Dignity Act Coordinators play a vital role in setting the school-wide climate in relation to prevention of bullying, harassment, and discrimination. This training session covered a wide range of topics, from reporting requirements to best practices, with a focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The training was led by Roseann Bayne, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction at CiTi BOCES in Fulton, and was hosted by DCMO BOCES Mental Health Coordinator Amanda Hoover. Participating schools included DCMO BOCES Pole and Harrold Campuses, Oxford Academy CSD, Unatego CSD, Unadilla Valley CSD, Hancock CSD, Otselic Valley CSD and Gilbertsville-Mount Upton CSD.
