Exciting work is underway at the Alan D. Pole Campus, as workers continue to make progress on the new playground. This playground replaces the previous preschool playground and will include apparatuses for older children (5-12 y.o.) as well. The playground surface will be a combination of pour-in-place rubber surface and wood mulch to make it more accessible for all students. It’s expected to be completed before the start of school in the fall.

Mrs. Ryan, Barbering instructor at Pole Campus, attended the Connecticut Barber Expo last weekend. It was an amazing experience filled with great education, new ideas, and a chance to learn from some of the best in the industry. One of the highlights was running into LeeAnne, a former DCMO BOCES Cosmetology student, now a licensed barber in Oneonta. This is an example of the different ways our instructors continue their professional development, bringing new knowledge and skills back to our students.

On May 5, Early Childhood Education (ECE) students from Harrold Campus had the opportunity to participate in an exciting and educational field trip to Bugbee Children's Center, the A.J. Read Science Discovery Center, and SUNY Oneonta's Planetarium.

At Bugbee Children's Center, students observed early childhood classrooms in action, gaining valuable insight into child development, classroom management, and age-appropriate learning activities. At the A.J. Read Science Discovery Center, they explored hands-on exhibits that demonstrated the importance of inquiry-based learning and interactive educational experiences for young children. The day concluded with a planetarium show on SUNY Oneonta's campus, where students learned about astronomy and discovered ways science concepts can be introduced to children in engaging and meaningful ways.

This experience provided our future educators with real-world observations, new teaching ideas, and a deeper understanding of how experiential learning can support children's growth and development.

Students in the Welding program at DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus were put to the test Wednesday– the Pressure Box test. Students weld identical steel boxes, which are then put under pressure with water and air on a special machine designed and built by Raymond for their own in-house welding competitions, and the amount of pressure it takes before a weld fails on the box is measured and recorded. The Raymond Corporation’s Tyler Reynolds, an Assistant Team Leader, traveled from Greene with the custom machine for this annual student exercise. DCMO BOCES appreciates the support of industry partners like The Raymond Corporation, which generously share their time, expertise and resources to help develop the future workforce.
