DCMO BOCES hosted the annual Legislative Breakfast at the Alan D. Pole Campus on Saturday. The event, organized by the Chenango County School Boards Association (CCSBA), is intended to facilitate dialogue between local legislators and school board members, and serves as an opportunity for local education leaders to share concerns and ideas with the government representatives. New York State Senator Peter Oberacker and Assemblyman Joseph Angelino attended, along with Jordan Fleming from New York State Senator Jeffrey Gallahan’s office. Fifteen school districts were represented at the event, along with DCMO BOCES board members, administrators and District Superintendent Michael Rullo.
A brunch buffet was prepared and served by students from the DCMO BOCES Culinary Arts program at both campuses, supervised by Chef Jeanni Romanowski and Human and Retail Services Instructor Nanette LaTourette.
Speakers included DCMO BOCES Board of Education President Vanessa Warren and member John Klockowski, as well as students Claire Sullivan, Olivia Hall and Brock Purdy from Bainbridge-Guilford Central School, who were introduced by Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education member Mia Gray. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions about education and student achievements, helping to strengthen relationships among the schools, legislators, and the community.

The Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne held a ribbon-cutting for the new Sugar Shack on Saturday during their Winter Living Celebration. DCMO BOCES Carpentry and Building Construction students from the Alan D. Pole Campus collaborated on the project, carefully dismantling and rebuilding the sugar shack over the last year-and-a-half, contributing to a long-term educational resource. They disassembled the building at its original site in Norwich and reassembled it in Sherburne, gaining hands-on experience in carpentry and construction. They learned essential skills like building scaffolding and working on a roof, according to instructor Eric Ingrahm.
The Chenango County Historical Society, Friends of Rogers, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), DCMO BOCES, and Clear Path for Veterans worked together to relocate the sugar shack from the Chenango County Historical Society to Rogers Center. The Center will use the sugar shack on-site to demonstrate the entire sap-to-sugar process. Mr. Ingraham represented DCMO BOCES at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with Ryan DeMars, Alan D. Pole Campus Principal, and Sonnet Constable, Pole Campus Work Experience Coordinator.

February is CTE Month!
Students enrolled in the Conservation and Heavy Equipment program at the Harrold Campus recently completed tree felling training as part of their forestry unit. Here, senior Kevin Conklin fells a large hemlock tree under the supervision of industry expert teacher Zach Whittaker. The forestry unit aims to equip students with essential skills in tree management and logging techniques. Kevin, who is undertaking this tree felling as part of his senior project, is carefully selecting trees to be harvested for saw logs. The lumber harvested from these felling activities will be used in various projects designed by fellow students in the CTE programs. “Practical experience in the field is invaluable,” according to Whittaker. “It bridges the gap between theory and real-world applications, preparing our students for future careers in forestry and related fields.”
