Meet Helti, the newest therapy dog here at DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus. She joins Mal, (Maleficent) who is with Mrs. McNeilly. Helti's office is in Ms. Greene's room, and she spends each day with Ms. Greene's class, with visits to other classes during the day. What a great addition to our school!

Work is moving forward on a new sugar house at the Alan D. Pole Campus! Our Carpentry and Building Construction students, led by instructor Eric Ingrahm, welcomed guest speaker and retired mason Bret Sherman, who reviewed blueprints and shared his expertise before walking the site with the class. At the site, they were joined by DCMO BOCES Health & Safety Coordinator Jason Lawrence, and Conservation teachers and assistants Tim Crumb, Amanda Larson and Rich Dando, whose students have also been involved in the project and will use the sugar house in the future. This is a great example of collaboration among Career and Technical Education programs.

In partnership with the New York State Education Department and the New York State School Boards Association, DCMO BOCES joined other BOCES around the state in hosting a “Welcome to Student School Board Members” event on Wednesday. 12 students from area school districts joined DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Michael Rullo and Instructional Support Services Mental Health Coordinator Amanda Hoover at the Support Services Center in Norwich. The group was joined virtually by presenters Robert Schneider, NYSSBA Executive Director; NYS Senator Shelley Mayer, Chair of the Senate Committee on Education, NYS Assembly Member Carrie Woerner; Board of Regents Chancellor Lester Young; NYSSBA President Sandra Ruffo; NYSBBA Deputy Director and General Counsel Jay Worona; and NYS Education Commissioner Betty Rosa. Following their presentations, the students participated in a community building circle, a communication/engagement strategy that promotes the elevating of voices and belonging for adults and students.

The goal for the gathering was to provide student board members with a fundamental understanding of their roles and responsibilities, connect them with state and local education leaders, and celebrate their sense of community service and leadership.

Student board members participating were from DCMO BOCES, Downsville CSD, Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton CSD, Norwich CSD, Unadilla Valley CSD, Otselic Valley CSD, Sherburne-Earlville CSD and Walton CSD.

The first day of school was a beautiful morning at Robert W. Harrold Campus. Teachers, staff and administrators welcomed the students, who had a chance to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones. We're looking forward to a great year!

DCMO BOCES FFA members competed in two contests, Small Engine Troubleshooting and Diesel Technology, at this year’s New York State Fair in Syracuse. Oliver Hilts (Bainbridge-Guilford CSD) placed 5th as an individual in Diesel Technology, and placed 10th as a team with Charity Johnson (Unatego CSD). Congratulations!

This summer at the Alan D. Pole Campus, Ms. Tucker's elementary students have traveled the 7 continents and learned about animals in each continent. Students are engaged in summer learning and developing social skills.

Thanks to students from the Computer Technology and Welding programs at the Alan D. Pole Campus in Norwich, DCMO BOCES was well-represented at last week’s Chenango County Fair! Led by instructor Ann French, the students designed and built a display promoting the different Career & Technology programs offered by DCMO BOCES with assistance from Jaan Aarismaa's Welding class. The display featured light-up hot air “balloons,” and a synchronized light and music display. The students took their cue from this year’s CTE promotion, “Start Here, Go Anywhere,” and built the display elements before leaving for summer break. Thank-you to our students and instructors for sharing their skills and talents with the community!
