Hoppy Leap Day from the DCMO School Lunch Management Team! Today's lunches, in the districts that we serve, included a little something extra to celebrate Leap Day. Students were very hoppy with dessert.

February is Career & Technical Education Month, and it’s also the month when 8th and 10th grade students from our component districts visit the DCMO BOCES campuses. On these visits, 8th graders get an overview of all the CTE programs, and 10th grade students get to spend more focused time in two programs of their choosing. What a great way to discover how they can turn their passion into a path forward! We appreciate the careful work that goes into planning and hosting these visits, involving our career counselors, work experience coordinators, CTE instructors, Pole and Harrold Campus administration, staff and students, and school counselors from our 16 component districts. DCMO BOCES CTE programs have a lot to offer, and students had a great time learning about them!

Julia Romanowski, a 2022 graduate of Sherburne-Earlville Central School and current student in the Veterinary Science Technology program at SUNY Delhi, recently completed her preceptorship program at VCA Hamilton Animal Hospital in Hamilton, NY. While there, Julia was able to work hands-on with animals and customers in many different ways, and also participated in some surgical procedures.
When Julia applied for the preceptorship position, she was already well-connected: as a senior at Sherburne-Earlville, Julia participated in the DCMO BOCES Career Destinations program. Under the supervision and guidance of the program’s coordinator, Christina McCall-Hopkins, she completed internships at Pet Street Station Animal Hospital and Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital in Norwich and VCA Hamilton Animal Hospital in Hamilton. During these internships, Julia was able to make amazing career connections and begin her industry networking. When she applied for her preceptorship at VCA, they were already familiar with her and she was quickly accepted. At the completion of the preceptorship, she was offered a position for after graduation. This reflects both Julia’s skills and performance, and the opportunities the DCMO BOCES Career Destination program makes possible for students. Congratulations, Julia!
