Superintendent Update Unsubstantiated Threat

December 16, 2021

Good afternoon.

The DCMO BOCES has been informed that there is another unsubstantiated threat against unspecified schools circulating on social media around the country. The BOCES is aware of this situation and its safety plan and procedures continue to remain in full effect.
The particular social media posts that it has been informed of include TikTok videos with the hashtags #december17th, #staysafe, #Schoolshootings, #bombthreats, #skipschool.

The BOC ES has been in communication with the Chenango County Sheriffs Office relative to this issue. It has been advised by that law enforcement agency that they have been in contact with the New York State Police Department about these recent threats. They have advised the BOCES that this appears to be a nationwide issue with no credible threat to any specific location.

The BOCES has also been in communication with its component school districts as well, relative to this concern. They have received a similar response from the law enforcement agencies that they have been working with.

All staff, students and parents/law guardians should immediately report to law enforcement if they are aware of any specific threats or witness any suspicious activity. Please be aware that any student or community member found to have made such a threat in any capacity, including on social media, or which causes a disturbance in school, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

The safety and welfare of our students, staff and school community remain the DCMO BOCES top priority, and it will continue to monitor this situation.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
