NEW! Entrepreneur Academy Launches First Workshop

DCMO BOCES announced today the opening of their Entrepreneur Academy and the first 4-Weeks To Business Workshop.  The program designed to help individuals launch a small business using Internet tools is a part of the Adult and Continuing Education program.  Martha Ryan, former Director of the Chenango County Entrepreneur Center, will lead this program with dual roles as instructor and coach.  The four-week program will combine in-person classes at both the Chenango and Harrold Campus with online workshops and assignments.  However, according to Ryan, the secret for success will be the planning platform combined with the coaching and consulting support, “Thanks to a gift from Growthwheel, international business development, and consulting platform, students will have access to comprehensive tools to plan and manage their business startup,” said Ryan.

DCMO BOCES Graduates from the class of 2020 will have the opportunity to apply for funding to cover all workshop expenses.  The initiative is a part of the Career Destinations program that introduces students to local career opportunities.  Graduates interested in participating in the program can begin the scholarship application by sending an email to [email protected] and explaining how they can apply the skills learned with their CTE education and why they wish to explore this career path.

Another scholarship, funded by the Community Foundation of South Central New York will benefit women who can use the workshop to develop a small business that can offset or improve their financial status especially those affected by layoffs or home school demands during this time of COVID.  According to Ryan, the application process requires candidates to send an email to [email protected] or complete the scholarship application form explaining their “Business Dream Idea”.  BOCES will be reviewing the information to determine the best fit for the program and choose women who have the best potential to launch a business using technology tools and those in greater need as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

The first workshop of the Entrepreneur Academy begins the last week of October. In-person classes at the Chenango Campus will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays, and at the Harrold Campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The workshop begins at 6:00 pm and will provide candidates with a bagged light dinner choice, materials, and access to the online education series.  For more information email Martha Ryan at [email protected]
