DCMO BOCES Prepares To Plan For School Re-Opening

On July 16, 2020 the New York State Education Department (NYSED), released the school reopening guidelines to prepare schools for implementation.  DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Perry Dewey, commented about the initiative, “BOCES was ahead of the process.  With the support of our administrative team, committees were formed in anticipation of receiving these guiding documents.” According to Dewey, DCMO BOCES formed committees each with different roles and departments, intended to blend many voices and incorporate multiple perspectives in order to make the process comprehensive and informative.  “The focal point of all our efforts is the safety and welfare of our students and the many people we connect in this process,” said Dewey.

Dewey shared that the NYSED reopening guidance document was immediately distributed to all task force and committee members to study and understand the requirements.  “Meetings have been scheduled to discuss the documents and also to review DCMO BOCES health and safety plans to verify alignment with required tasks,” said Dewey.

DCMO BOCES manages the opening of its two Career and Technical Education campuses in Chenango and in Delaware County as well as leading the compliance efforts for its 16 Component School Districts in the region.  “This planning process is all about finding the best strategies and monitoring processes to reopen our schools with the least amount of life threatening risk,” said Dewey expressing his deep concern for the people BOCES intends to protect in this process.
