DCMO BOCES To Name Norwich Campus In Honor of Alan Pole

At the Board of Education meeting held on May 6, 2021, by unanimous vote, a resolution to name the Norwich campus the Alan D. Pole Campus was approved.  Pole, who served the DCMO BOCES as District Superintendent for 18 years, was recognized for his leadership and for his foresight to upgrade the learning facilities that serve 16 school districts in the region.

District Superintendent Perry T. Dewey introduced the resolution to board members by saying, “We would like to honor Alan Pole for the work he has done for New York State and most importantly for the BOCES.  The work that he has done with the school superintendents in the region and the collegiality that was created through that work, which allowed for the BOCES to become renovated, remodeled and become a premiere educational institution for our students.

According to Dewey, Pole’s career as a District Superintendent began in July 1990 and continued until his retirement in August of 2008 leaving behind a legacy of remarkable contributions.  Dewey added that Pole’s contributions continue today in his role as educational consultant.  Surrounded by his family and peers, Alan Pole humbly accepted the board’s resolution by saying, “This is very special and frankly very emotional time to me.  This honor is due to all the people at BOCES, my family, and the school leadership who supported my efforts over the years.  I could not have been able to do what I did without them.”

Board President, Linda Zaczek celebrated the building commemoration efforts, “We were fortunate to have worked with such a strong leader.  Alan raised the bar and built with his focused commitment, many relationships that positively impact our student’s future.  I applaud our board for today’s decision and honor Alan’s contributions and to celebrate the legacy he left behind.”

To commemorate Pole’s contributions to education, the Norwich Career and Technical Education campus will be named in his honor as the “Alan D. Pole Campus” with a ceremony to be held on June 18, 2021.
