Special Education

Our special education programs provide students academic instruction in core subject areas. Students enrolled in our programs may participate in state alternative assessment, or state and district-wide assessments. Students of appropriate age at the secondary level have the opportunity to participate in our Career Technical Education Programs (CTE).

Special Education programs are provided for students with disabilities between the ages of 5 through 22, K-12. DCMO BOCES programs offer a wide range of educational alternatives for students with varying degrees of cognitive, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical disabilities. Our Programs focus on supporting students to achieve their full potential and become as independent as possible.

Special Education programs are offered at the Alan D. Pole Campus and Harrold Campus. Programs are offered in the special class configuration of 12:1:1, 8:1:1, and 6:1:1 programs that have been developed to meet the needs of each student. Student placement in a program is based upon the educational achievement, social development, physical development, and management needs of students as identified in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Referrals and determination of placement in a program are made by the component school district Committee of Special Education.

This information is intended to provide general information. If a parent or guardian suspects their child has a disability, please contact your local school district and ask to speak to the Director of Special Education.
