DCMO Rolls Out New Approach to Career Destinations & Local Workforce Preparation

 

DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Perry Dewey and educators gathered on September 4,2018 to discuss the 2018-19  School Year.  Among the exciting sessions was Mark Perna's presentation on a new career development approach that will impact over 500 students attending the Chenango and Harrold campuses.  Dewey informed that the paradigm shift was critical when dealing with economic and community development needs.  “We need to proactively work together to manage the alarming population decrease, respond to workforce preparation requirements, and prevent our youth from leaving the region,” said Dewey  

DCMO BOCES retained the services of Mark Perna, a nationally recognized educational consultant who has led successful implementation of career development programs across the nation.  Dewey added that the program’s success depends in great part to the involvement of business and community partners.  “The time is now for all of us to work together to prepare our youth and keep them right here as successful members of our community,” said Dewey.

Perna, who is the author of the new book Answering Why, led the planning sessions and coached all involved to follow proven success strategies.  “I believe that today’s young people have incredible potential in the workforce; we just have to unleash it.  The strategies we are implementing at DCMO BOCES will empower these students to make the most of their educational and career journey,” said Perna.
