Regional Workshops: These workshops, open to all component school districts, are designed to address issues related to the New York State Standards and Assessments, literacy, instructional strategies, integration of technology into the curriculum, curriculum development, and other topics as requested. Regional workshop offerings are listed in the Professional Development Offerings catalog.
On-Site Workshops: Districts often have specific service needs to be provided on-site at local schools. This work must be tied directly to the New York State Learning Standards and continue work previously initiated by the district. It may be provided by BOCES personnel or by an outside consultant (coordinated by the Office of Staff and Curriculum Development). Districts are eligible for up to fifteen days of on-site work if it is provided by or coordinated by BOCES. This service has often been used for curriculum development projects.
Technical Assistance: The Office of Staff and Curriculum Development provides districts with information or consultation on many issues requested by teachers and administrators. Facilitation skills, group-processing skills and shared decision making team training are services that have been frequently requested by component schools.
Research: Updated research in the form of collections of articles, suggested web sites, and research syntheses is provided to teachers and administrators upon request. Many districts have requested information relating to best practice which is compiled and shared by the Office of Staff and Curriculum Development.
Planning Services: The Office of Staff and Curriculum Development can assist districts in developing, maintaining, and updating Comprehensive School Improvement Plans (LINKS: integrated CSPD, Professional Development Plan, and AIS description), Local Assistance Plans, and Technology Plans.
Leadership: Professional development opportunities and leadership training are provided for school administrators at monthly meetings coordinated by BOCES. We provide educational updates, research, best practice, and other related topics.
