Violence Prevention Training

"This Doesn’t Happen Here"

A two-hour violence prevention training for persons seeking certification

This training is designed to respond to the requirement for a two-hour certification course to be conducted for teachers, teaching assistants, pupil personnel services professionals and administrators in New York State as part of the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE).

During the two-hour training participants will review:

• Statutes, regulations and policies relating to a safe, non-violent school climate
• Effective classroom management techniques and other academic supports that promote a non-violent school climate and enhance learning
• Integration of social and problem solving skills development for students within the regular curriculum
• Intervention techniques designed to address a school violence situation
• Warning signs within a developmental and social context that relate to violence and other troubling behaviors in children
• How to participate in an effective school/community referral process for students exhibiting violent behavior

Courses will be held at the Support Services Center, Norwich, NY. Directions to the Center can be found elsewhere on this site. Cost of the course is $25.00 per participant. You may register by printing and filling out a registration form. Payment for the course must accompany the registration form. Checks should be made payable to the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES.
